Ir Ts Dr Tham is an Associate Professor with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). He received his Bachelor of Engineering and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from University of Malaya. His research interests include deep learning, reinforcement learning and wireless communications. He has participated in 32 research and development projects, 14 of which he served as the Principal Investigator (PI). His PI-led projects include two international grants (ICT Virtual Organization of ASEAN Institutes and NICT (ASEAN IVO) and British Council UK-ASEAN Institutional Links Early Career Researchers), Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education Fundamental Research Grant Scheme (FRGS), and multiple industry-funded projects. He has published more than 60 papers, including two IEEE Transactions as the first/corresponding author, IEEE GLOBECOM, ICC and WCNC. He was awarded the UTAR Research Excellence Award 2024 and the ASEAN IVO Certificate of Excellence 2023. He is a professional engineer (Electronic) registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia and professional technologist (Electronic) registered with Malaysia Board of Technologists. 4 PhD and 4 Master students have graduated under his supervision.
