Fund-Raising Target For Leaders

About 100 MCA leaders have been entrusted with the task of raising between RM2mil and RM100,000 each within the next 12 months as part of the party's fund-raising campaign for Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik, who described the amounts set as realistic for the leaders, said the party's four ministers would have to raise at least RM2mil each.

Under the campaign, each deputy minister would have to raise RM500,000. The target for the Deputy Speaker of Parliament is RM350,000, state executive councilcors and parliamentary secretaries RM300,000, members of parliament RM200,000 and state assemblymen and senators RM100,000.

Members of the MCA central committee who do not hold government positions will have to raise RM100,000 each.

He said PJ Utara MP Chew Mei Fun was the first of MCA's 28 MPs to achieve the target.

The response to fund-raising for UTAR has been very encouraging and the construction on the UTAR campus in Kampar, Perak will kick off next year with the ground breaking ceremony on Jan 12.
