More than 30,000 people, mostly Malaysians from all over the country came to Kampar to witness the laying of foundation stone of University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), the country's latest institution of higher learning.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Mahathir Mohamad who laid the foundation stone said the Chinese were steadfast in their academic goals and commended their academic resilience in pursuing a better tomorrow for the community.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr. Ling Liong Sik and Perak MCA Youth chief Datuk Tan Chin Meng lit the cauldron to mark the end of the torch run.
