Courtyards and greenery key elements in UTAR
design The five buildings under Phase 1A of the Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)'s permanent campus in Kampar will each have open-air courtyards located at its centre. Director of the company that designs the buildings, Chow Yeut Keong, said that courtyards not only let light into buildings but allowed for ventilation. "In the open-air spaces, there will be lots of plants that will help keep the air within the premises fresh", he added. The five buildings under Phase 1A are the Heritage Hall and Conference Complex; the teaching and learning station; laboratories and lecture theatres; research laboratories and lecture halls; and the student pavilion. The Heritage Hall will serve as the main administration block and will have a hall of fame exhibiting information and pictures of those responsible in transforming UTAR into reality. All the three-storey walk-up structures, except for the student pavilion, will have facilities for the disabled such as elevators and rams for wheelchair-bound persons. |
