Monday August 23, 2010 Bridging the digital gap  Community service: Interns teaching children from Salvation Army Girls all about Microsoft PowerPoint. THIRTY underprivileged young people in Ipoh were given the chance to learn how to use the computer. Thanks to the Care4u programme, the children from Vision Home, Salvation Army Boys and Salvation Army Girls were able to pick up basic computer skills. The recent programme was initiated by CyberCare Malaysia and executed by six Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Kampar campus) undergraduates who are undergoing their internship with CyberCare Malaysia with support from KPerak Inc Corporation. According to CyberCare Interns multimedia manager Yeo Li Sa, the programme commenced in July and will run for seven weeks at the Perak Techno-Trade Centre. "Care4u is a programme that hopes to make a difference in the lives of children from shelter homes." "We hold community projects and coaching sessions on skills and ICT training," she said. Yeo added that KPerak and CyberCare were collaborating to extend the programme to more children from other shelter homes and orphanages in the state. "CyberCare is a non-governmental organisation committed to improving the lives of the underprivileged through IT," she said.
