Prof Paul Roe from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) was at UTAR Kampar Campus on 19 June 2012 to speak on ‘Data Challenges in Multimedia Environmental Sensing’.
The QUT Science and Engineering Faculty professor said traditional biodiversity monitoring is labour intensive and expensive. He explained that multimedia sensors can provide a solution to this. However, unlike traditional sensors, multimedia sensors’ data collection process and management can be challenging due to the distributed and voluminous nature of the data.
Prof Roe, whose is an expert in distributed computing presented ways in which he has addressed the above challenges including dynamic and adaptive data movement, and processing through his research findings.
