Event Name: FSc Postgraduate Seminar at UTAR Kampar Campus

Four sessions were held, consisting of topics on Natural Products, Medical Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, Biodiversity and Ecosystem, and Chemistry, which saw invited speakers Dr Yap Moh Lan from FSc’s Department of Biological Science and FSc’s Department of Agricultural and Food Science lecturer Dr Kuan Chee Hao presented their researches.

Event Name: Food Safety and Rapid Testing Workshop at UTAR Sg Long Campus
Date: 12 October 2017
Hosted by the Centre for Research on Communicable Diseases (CRCD) and the Centre for Extension Education (CEE)
The main objective of the workshop was to raise awareness about food safety among the public as well as the medical practitioners.
Dr. Kuan from the Department of Agricultural and Food Science of UTAR Faculty of Science spoke on “Epidemiology of Food Contamination with Drug Residues”. His talk focused on the husbandry management, veterinary drugs, effects of antibiotic residues in food, and the authorities monitoring food safety in Malaysia as well as some case studies on food contamination in the country.
The subsequent talk was “Rapid Detection in China” by Dr. Yan Yiyong, the Research and Development Deputy Director of Shenzhen Bioeasy Biotechnology Co., Ltd, China. In his talk, he provided a brief overview of international standards and demonstrated rapid detection of antibiotics in food. Dr. Yan emphasised, “Food standards are tremendously important in that standards set by the authorities will help to ensure the food are safe for consuming.”
