Alumni showed their prowess when they beat students in basketball and table tennis at the UTAR Sports Carnival, Klang Valley, held on 9 and 10 August 2008.

The winning basketball team comprised the 2004 MASUM (Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia) team from UTAR, while the victorious table tennis team were the UTAR players in the MASUM games in 2006.

This is the first time alumni were invited to participate in the Sports Carnival. All alumni who took part received participant medals for their effort.

The alumni team were runners-up in volleyball. The other games they took part in were futsal and badminton. Altogether, there were seven games for competition including tennis and tug-of-war.

A total of 41 alumni joined students from all Faculties and the Centre for Foundation Studies to compete in the sporting event.

The overall champion was the Faculty of Accountancy and Management. The second placing went to the Centre for Foundation Studies, Petaling Jaya, while the Faculty of Engineering and Science was third.

In the subsequent week, the Perak Campus held its Sports Carnival. There was strong support given by students there. The first placing went to the Centre for Foundation Studies, while the Faculty of Business and Finance was second, and third was the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Technology.
