SEPTEMBER 2008

Alumni Liaison Representatives have their first gathering

Alumni Liaison Representatives or ALRs got together in the first official gathering for alumni held on 26 July 2008 in Block PB, Petaling Jaya campus.

ALRs are appointed to represent alumni and to support UTAR through volunteer participation in a variety of University events and activities. Their role is to contact and encourage other alumni to participate in alumni activities and to form a link with the alma mater.

The ALR gathering was an excellent opportunity to meet University staff and other alumni and to keep updated on developments in the University. Through such participation, the ALRs are able to keep other alumni informed (besides the ongoing contact via UTAR Alumni webpages)

The University appointed more than 70 ALRs. More will be appointed in future. Alumni who wish to volunteer to become ALRs should contact DARP.

Professor Dato' Dr. Chuah Hean Teik, the President of UTAR, emphasised on the important role of the alumni in the development of UTAR. He also related some inspiring stories of the alumni association of his alma mater in Penang.

Dr Yeoh Suan Pow, the Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations briefed the ALRs on the role of DARP and the proposed Alumni Association, and on the activities being planned for the alumni.

In conjunction with the occasion, a talk on personal financial planning was also arranged for the ALRs. The informative talk was given by Ms Annie Tan from Agensi Kaunseling Dan Pengurusan Kredit (AKPK), Bank Negara.

A tea reception was held in the Executive Lounge in Block PB after the talks and discussions. This was a golden opportunity for the alumni and UTAR personnel to interact, catch up on old times and plan for future events.
