TEA MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT

TEA MEETING WITH THE PRESIDENT

On 29 October 2008, the graduating students of Faculty of Accountancy and Management met with UTAR President, Engr. Prof. Dato' Dr. Chuah together with other senior management officers. The meeting also provided students the opportunity to mingle and to find out more about graduation and employment prospects.

The event began with a speech by UTAR President. He emphasised the importance of mastering the English language as English is widely used throughout the world today. Graduates entering the competitive workforce should realise that it is very important to be proficient in the English language. One must be able to express ideas, information, opinions, points of view and explanations to potential clients or supervisors in the English language.

Prof. Chuah also advised the students to possess positive work attitudes in securing their jobs. He added that fresh graduates should be realistic and not too selective in their job search. They should learn to gain worthwhile experience from their first job.

Mr Teng Cheng Seong, Head of the Department of Alumni Relations & Placement (DARP) introduced the role of DARP to the students after the president's speech. He listed the services provided by DARP in assisting UTAR Alumni. He also stressed the importance of alumni to the University and encouraged them to stay in contact with their alma mater.

A tea reception soon followed after the meeting. Graduating students interacted with the President and senior management officers. Information counters were set up by the Department of Alumni Relations & Placement, the Department of Soft Skills Competency, Division of Programme Promotion and the Centre for Extension Education to provide useful information for the graduating students. The tea meeting ended at 4.30pm.
