Get Yourself In More Activities And Study

Jeffery Ng Shau Hung
Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Electrical Engineering
August 2008

I am 24 years old this year and have completed my Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics last May. Currently, I'm working as a Test Engineer in Electronics Manufacturing Service, EMS provider located at PTP, JB which is also one of the newly set up ports for Iskandar Project.

As a Test Engineer, my job scopes include handling feedbacks from customers, compiling failure analysis, evaluating production line tester, liaising with the supplier on faulty products and the most important task is to improve the yield and downtime of the tester. All these require extensive understanding, communication, management and technical skills to enable the tasks to be completed.

I was one of the Student Representative Committee members, appointed as the Fund Raising Manager in organizing UTAR's Ball Night and Orientation's activities. I was also an active member in Clubs and Societies. The soft skills that I learnt at UTAR besides the hard skills knowledge have helped me greatly especially when I was working overseas. To name some, the Communication Skills and Management Skills that I picked up while organizing events in UTAR have enhanced my ability to communicate with customers, internal team and the suppliers more effectively as compared to my colleagues. On the other hand, possessing the correct attitude like being humble and always ready to learn even from your sub-ordinate is very important as well.

My words of advice to my juniors are to get yourself involved in more student activities and study harder. Always find the opportunity to improve yourself by attending more seminars and talks offered by UTAR. You will experience the difference once you start working.

The Writer

I feel thankful to my uncle, Mr. FC Chia for guiding me to find the most suitable course at UTAR. In addition, I would like to thank Miss Sum KS, all DSA staff in PJ, Sg. Long, and Setapak for their guidance and coaching as well. Not forgetting, the FES lecturers and staff who have never hesitated to coach and guide me to who I am right now.

Last but not least, I thank my family, my friends and my loved ones who have always supported me when I need them the most. They have never failed to support me through good times and bad times.

Thank you everyone. Thank you UTAR.
