Unlike most of the Homecoming Celebrations in other universities, our very own one (organized first time by our Alma-mater, UTAR, in the first week-end of September 2009) did not end with a Re-union Dinner only.  Our fun-filled reunion experience continued on with events I have never dreamt of: Caving and White Water Rafting - exciting but safe with experienced professional coaches and safety facilities to take care of us.

The white water rafting at Sungai Gopeng comprises 14 rapids and 7km of "ice cool" fast flowing river stream. The rafting journey was breath taking yet exciting especially for first timers like us. I remember seeing boat members' nervous and scared expressions in the face of task ahead. But we managed to pass through all the obstacles by encouraging each other and putting trust in the care and skill of our boat captain.

The most challenging parts of the white water rafting were at the "double decker rapids" and "whirling rapids". A few boats got trapped in the whirling rapids but fortunately, with professional guidance and safe gadgets, we managed to set ourselves "free". A few incidences, our boat collided with another one and it sent us spinning in circles, followed by screaming at high pitch and laughter. 

The best part of the rafting was when the whole raft dived into the water in a "boom boom" position and then emerged again from under the water. Undoubtedly, all of us got wet then!

The key advice for those who want to experience White Water Rafting is to listen to the INSTRCTIONS of the coach STRICTLY, and with team spirit.

At the end of the day, we did not only learn the skills of white water rafting and the rafting lingo "boom boom", but most importantly, we got to know more alumni as well as lecturers and staff of UTAR.
