Esteemed career opportunities through UTAR Career Fairs

"We received approximately 100 potential candidates with many enquiries targeted on pursuing internship at Singapore," claimed a delighted Vernie Chen, the Business Executive from Speedwing Malaysia which provides global-learning opportunities to students and young working adults alike.

Vernie's joy was equally shared by 55 companies that joined UTAR Career Fair held in Perak campus and another 50 companies in Kuala Lumpur campus. The meaningful functions were held respectively on 30-31/3/2011 at Perak campus and on 6-7/4/2011 at Kuala Lumpur campus.

1722 students from Perak campus and 569 students from Kuala Lumpur campus were seen engaging actively with enquiries pertaining to career opportunities, internships and interviews during the Career Fair. Some companies that were eager to enlighten students on their company unique missions and career opportunities available also held a number of career talks as an up-close-and-personal approach to attract the potential candidates. Altogether, there were nine career talks held both at Perak and Kuala Lumpur campuses to accommodate all the enthusiastic students.

The successful UTAR Career Fair featured more than 50 well-known multinational companies from various industries namely banking and finance like Maybank, Public Bank, CIMB; insurance and financial advisors such as Standard Financial Planner, SG Wealth Management, U-Need Wealth Management; recruitment agencies like Recruit Express, Jobscentral and many other companies to furnish students with boundless choices of worthy career opportunities, both locally and internationally.

"The Career Fair was effective and successful particularly the banking industry judging by the size of crowds at the enquiries counters. Many students also brought along their CVs to apply for prospective jobs" commented Robin Ng Jia Li, an Entrepreneurship student. He was one of the few hundreds who were greatly captivated by the informative talk held by Speedwing Malaysia.

The sentiment was echoed by Eddie Lim, Director of U-Need Wealth Planners who received an outstanding of 490 questionnaire forms from the students. "Three students will be undergoing an exam for licensing requirements" Eddie remarked cheerfully as he described his recent employment of 2 full time students  and another 2 part-timer following the inaugural Career Fair in November 2010.

As the organizer of the event, the Department of Alumni Relations and Placement aspires to render extensive opportunities and options to students to acquire decent employability and career development even before their graduation in May 2011. With this effort, UTAR students could get information on relevant employment available nationwide, aiding them in selecting right courses to pursue in future.
