Smash to cultivating relationship between alumni and students

20^th November 2011 was certainly an electrifying day as shouts of Hurray filled the air with every smash from the players seeking to seize points for themselves. The seemingly fierce competition was in fact a friendly badminton match that was held to cultivate relationship between the alumni and the current students in UTAR.

?The match was indeed an opportunity for the alumni to spend time with the students,? said the leader of the alumni team and also a graduate of the Faculty of Accountancy and Management, Lean Thean Yew.

Wilson Ooi Ming Li, leader for the badminton club under the Sports Club shared similar view with Thean Yew, ?Apart from the badminton match, the first meeting with the alumni was an opportunity to interact and exchange study experiences.?

It was certainly a match with bustling stamina and expertise as the alumni and the student skillfully stood their ground to defend and manipulate their opponents.

According to Thean Yew, the alumni group represented UTAR in the past badminton matches during their course of studies. Also present on the tournament day was Yee Kin Sian who is currently a professional player at the national level.

?I hope more friendly matches like badminton and basket ball can be organized in time to come,? said Wilson Ooi.

Such joyful reunion of both alumni and student was made possible thanks to the effort of the Department of Alumni Relations and Placement. The match which was held in a newly constructed sports complex, Sport@Grand Kampar, saw the participation of 14 alumni and 11 students.
