Tea meetings with the President held

UTAR Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP) held the Tea Meeting with the President at Petaling Jaya Campus and Perak Campus on 19 and 21 November 2012 respectively, where UTAR President Ir Prof Dato' Dr Chuah Hean Teik met with graduating students.

"I encourage you to participate in the upcoming convocation in March 2013, because it will be a rare occasion to celebrate you success with your family," said Prof Chuah, in his address to the graduating students.

On looking for a job, he advised students to communicate in English more often especially while in the campus to get ready for their future workplace where English would be predominantly used.  It was not necessary to get a job straightaway after first degree because graduates could pursue further studies as he had done.  However, there was no right or wrong answer on this issue and the students, themselves, would have to decide.  On choosing whether to work in a big or small organisation, he said both had their advantages.  Graduates would not learn everything ?from head to tail? working in a big company but they would have to learn from A to Z working in a small company.  He advised students to be fully prepared for job interviews including wearing proper attire and having customised curriculum vitae.

Prof Chuah concluded by saying that UTAR offers holistic education and it promotes the six philosophical values of:

·         Virtue and Morality

·         Knowledge and Intellect

·         Physical and Mental Health

·         Sociality and Humanitarianism

·         Aesthetics and Harmony

·         Creativity and Innovation

After Prof Chuah's address, DARP Head Sum Kwai Seong briefed students on the objectives of her department, its services and activities.  She introduced the alumni liaison representatives, postgraduate studies for UTAR graduates, online job vacancy postings at Jobzone, the career fair and career day to be held in February and July 2013, and the March 2013 convocation.
