UTAR Alumni Won World Mental Olympics Bronze Metal

Malaysia for the first time won the World Mental Olympics bronze medal

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia successfully won the bronze medal in the World Mental Olympics. West Wong Woon Chieng, 25 years young, won a precious Bronze medal for Malaysia in the category mental arithmetic Flash Anzan.

          West Wong is the only representative of Malaysia to compete in World Mental Olympics. This is the historical moment for Malaysia as this is the first time Malaysian went to Turkey to participate in World Mental Olympics. We are proud that West Wong has brought back a great honour for Malaysia.

    World Mental Olympiad is named MEMORIAD. MEMORIAD, where games and competitions are held in the olympic games order once every four year, is the FIRST and ONLY platform combining 'MEMORY', 'MENTAL CALCULATION', 'MENTAL ARITHMETIC' and 'PHOTOGRAPHIC READING' competitions.

    MEMORIAD 2012 was held at Antalya, Turkey on 24-25 November 2012. According to MEMORIAD Chairman Melik Duyar, this mental olympics has been the most competitive one so far. World Memory and Mental Calculation Champions and World Record Holders such as German Simon Reinhard, English Ben Pridmore, Cuban Freddis Reyes Hernandez, Japanese Naofumi Ogasawara, Malaysian Woon Chieng Wong, Austrian Corinna Draschl, American Yusnier Viera Romero and Turkish Hakan Gurbaslar competed.

    West Wong brought back Bronze medal for the Flash Anzan category and achieved World No.5 for the Mental Additions category. This is such a great honour for Malaysian and he said, 'Thank you very much to all the supports from Malaysia. Specially thanks to my coach, Andrew Richards, my family and my love one. We wish that we as Malaysian could achieve better results at the next MEMORIAD.' West Wong also shared his experience at MEMORIAD 2012, 'World Mental Olympics is such a great international competition because it gave us a platform to exchange ideas with all the mental world champions and experts around the world.'

    West Wong is a mentor and tuition teacher in Kuala Lumpur. He is inspired to build more mental elite in these 4 years. West Wong welcome all the participants around the world to join his team.
