Life in UTAR

CHEAH JUN KIT
BACHELOR OF COMMERCE (HONS) ACCOUNTING
Class of August 2009
Vice Chairman, Photography Society, 2006-2007

My name is Cheah Jun Kit. I am commonly known as JJ. I am 22 years old now. I enrolled myself in Bachelor of Accounting in 2006. Now, I have successfully graduated from UTAR in 2009. I am extremely pleased to complete my studies in UTAR.

Talking about my life in UTAR, I have gained so much new experiences in the university from the first day till my graduation day. As an ordinary student like anyone else, I entered a new environment with an open heart and optimism. I knew I have to accept a lot of things and adapt to changes. Remember, it is always possible for us to achieve anything we want if we can adapt to a much flexible approach. Do not give up if an approach does not work well; always be flexible to use another approach. Be flexible.

I was doing an accounting course. I believed that just studies alone will not satisfy me. Thus, I took up the responsibility to lead the class as well as the course. I have learned to become a responsible leader. I always took the initiatives to stay connected with every lecturers and tutors. Hence, I was able to disseminate prompt information to all course mates. This helped me to improve my communication skills and taught me how to do networking with others. This experience certainly boosted my confidence.

When I was a young child, my parents always encouraged me to keep myself busy with various activities. Due to that, I have developed an attitude where I just cannot be settled or satisfied with the current level I possessed. I would always seek improvement every now and then. In order to progress further in life, I joined a dance club. I took part in the club activities actively. Thus, I had the privilege to know more people. I had the opportunity to organize events and clubs. I was also able to work with a lot of different kinds of people. I got to know about the authorities and how to follow procedures. Most importantly, I have learnt to be an effective learner. My responsible attitude made me become a good role model to people around me.

Although I seemed to be more successful in dancing than anything else, but you have to know that there were a lot of other combined factors which led to my present achievement. As we all know, spending our time on studies is strenuous; however, by managing my time well, I have had more exposures. Everyday in those 3 years in UTAR were so meaningful. Attending lectures and tutorials like every student does, attending club meetings, conducting 7 dance classes every week, training my dance crew members for performances and doing paper works for society. All those activities made me grow stronger than ever. Moreover, I also had the opportunity to take part in many government and colleges? events representing UTAR. These increased the size of my community network and have further heightened my exposures.

Lastly, I urge every one of you to make use of every moment of your life as an opportunity to shine. Do not waste time. Do your best and have great undertakings in your future.
