MARCH 2013

Someone I'd never want to lose

Venz Loke Mun Sin

Bachelor of Communication (Hons) Advertising

Batch of March 2012

I'm feeling great and contented with my life now.  I have my job with income sufficient for me, a home, a car, etc.  But whether all of these exist or not, it doesn't really matter to me, there is only one who absolutely brightens my life and I really care about my respectable father.

It was in January 2002 that his wife decided to leave him.  He was left with the responsibility to raise a 12-year-old son to adulthood alone.

It must have been his bitterest days before the divorce was fully settled, he was still the only breadwinner of the family and he had to take on a new role of nurturing me - one that he had never anticipated.  But all these years, he has never failed to do the best job he can.  He is always there when I need him.  He shares his experience with me and advises me, but let me to make my own decisions.  Despite all the unfortunate situations he is in, I have never seen any sadness or frustration appeared on his face.  What I constantly see are his warm smiles and optimism.  With such a great dad, despite being a single-parent family, I have never felt any difference from others my age.

March 2012 was jubilations for me.   I graduated with an honours bachelor's degree in Advertising.  Of course, I was happy because I have a university education.  I was happier that I had not disappointed Dad who had put in so much effort in raising me.

I wonder how someone could leave a man like Dad.  He is more than a good man; he is the best a man can be, because many who are close to him will tell you what a friendly and fun person he is.

Dad, I believe you have earned your own happiness; you deserve it.

For me, you are more than a respectable father because you are also a caring 'mother'.  Therefore, you are definitely a wonderful and kind parent who I would never want to lose in my life, Dad!

A happy family again: Venz with his father and step-mother
