UTAR Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP) regularly organises tea meetings where soon graduating final-year students meet up with UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato' Dr Chuah Hean Teik before their convocation.

For the graduating students of March 2014, the department had organised three tea meetings for the month of June 2013.  They were held at Sungai Long Campus, Perak Campus and Kuala Lumpur Campus on 25, 26 and 27 June respectively.

At each of the tea meeting, Prof Chuah stressed that convocation was not only about the graduands themselves, but also about their parents who raise them and care for them.   Students were advised not to disregard the sacrifices and contributions of their parents.  He shared tips on decision to pursue further study, getting ready before the interview, and writing a proper résumé.  He also mentioned about the holistic educational approach UTAR uses which includes the six educational pillars of Virtue and Morality, Knowledge and Intellect, Physical and Mental Health, Sociality and Humanitarianism, Aesthetics and Harmony, and Creativity and Innovation.

After the speech, the final-years students were invited to a tea reception with the President and other senior management officials.

In the second part of the tea meeting, DARP Head Sum Kwai Seong brief the students about the services her department offers.

Attendance at the three tea meetings was overwhelming as the final-year students did not want to miss the chance to get valuable advice from Prof Chuah.
