Sim Kat: Degree in the bag

                                       By Chong Sim Kat(Left)

Bachelor of Communication (Hons) Advertising, September 2011

Degree is in the bag, job applications are in the post.

That was what I did just after graduation.  Because I believe that the best thing one can do is to start planning early.  If you put things off, you're going to be behind the game.  I put in loads of applications before leaving university and now I worked for a business consultancy company.  And I hope that there'll be a better job at the end of it.  It's tough, but it's cheering to know that we are living in a meritocracy and rewards will come if you put in hard work.

As a graduate, I'm glad to say that UTAR has been consulting employers on the design of courses and put employability at the centre of strategic planning through working with professional bodies and industrial advisors.  Employers expect graduates to have attributes including team-working, communication skills, leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving and even managerial abilities.  And all skills are covered under the UTAR Soft Skills Development Certificate programme.  Of course, knowledge learned from courses in the University is important as it provides us the competency to start our careers.
