Memories Of UTAR Will Always Be With Me!

SUA YEN XIA

BACHELOR OF ENGINEERING (HONS) BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

Batch of August 2014

It was one month and eight days to my graduation day. It was four months and eleven days to my last day in UTAR Kuala Lumpur Campus. It was four years and four months ago that I commenced my studies in UTAR. Time flies, however, I am still able to recall vividly the first time I felt home to study in the bustling capital of Malaysia. I took time to adapt to the new environment. It was difficult but I am lucky to have supportive and helpful friends who guided me through every dilemma that I faced in university life.

The first semester of my undergraduate studies was filled with a lot of unfamiliar engineering subjects such as Thermo Fluids, Basic Electronics, Circuit Theory and Circuits. The confidence and triumph built from my stellar results in secondary school was dashed in an instant. I began to doubt my own ability and decision to study engineering. It was my course mates who taught and convinced me on how to cope with pressure. We stood united against the challenges of final exams.

We adhere to the motto 'Work hard, play hard.' Besides studying, we had memorable singing sessions in the choir group Acapella. We stayed overnight in campus to prepare for every performances. We had breakfast early next morning in the campus. Therefore, I knew that the stall selling bread in UTAR KL Campus is the only stall operating as early as 6am.

I am grateful for the memorable four-year experience in UTAR. I remember the mamak stall owner with whom we had a four-year 'agreement'. We promised to have dinner regularly at his stall. My favourite dishes were roti sardin, roti telur, nasi lemak and bihun goreng. We usually burnt the midnight oil at McDonald outlet a day before submitting our assignment or sitting for mid-terms and final exams. As a senior, I would like to advise my juniors to stay away from this bad habit and to consistently strive for progress in their assignments and revision.

Graduation indicates the completion of my undergraduate studies in UTAR. I am now moving to another phase in life. I shall carry along the resilient UTAR spirit to counter any challenges that I might face in the future. I believe that UTAR has equipped me with sufficient knowledge and skills to succeed in my career. I am proud to be a UTAR alumna and I hope to make UTAR proud of me someday.
