Key to Success: Study Smart and Play Hard

Lim Chia Voon

Bachelor of Physiotherapy (Hons)

Honours Degree with Merit

August 2015

First of all I would like to thank everyone for being with me throughout all the up's and down's during my study in UTAR. I am so glad that I can achieve a merit with distinction in this physiotherapy course. I must admit that I have really put in a lot of effort to achieve it as I always believe nothing comes our way easily. Overall, I would say that my hard work, being disciplined and desire to achieve have brought me to the success.

Life is a journey with almost limitless possibilities. UTAR wasn't my choice at first but it turned out to be the best decision I have ever made. Campus life has been one of the best times of my life. Throughout my study I gained a lot of experiences and joy and learnt to be independent at all times. I get to meet a lot of new friends while participating in extracurricular activities. Many of them are good people who are my best friends that will last a lifetime.  I used to hang out with friends, and go gatherings, for movies, vacations, and out chatting with them during my free time.  I truly miss my campus life so much.

I chose to study physiotherapy mainly because of my personal liking of the field.  It wasn't my choice as first as other universities offer this course with expensive fees. Thus, when UTAR started to introduce this course, my interest came back and this is who I am now, a qualified physiotherapist. Second reason was my intention to help out the others who had disabilities.  I can say now that I have got what I expected earlier. Through the course, I learnt about our body functions, communicating with others and how we can treat the people disabilities and going through the phases of rehabilitation.  Most of all, I learnt about coping with problems and that has been my best lesson ever.  I am glad that our university had given us many chances to explore more out there by posting to different hospitals and places to gain our experience in this field.

My advice to my juniors is that you set your goal in life and, believe me, no matter how difficult it may be, if you work hard enough, one day you will achieve it. Study smart and play hard. Remember, everything happens for a reason and I hope that we all together can bring up this field and everyone success in their lives.
