Pioneer Batch in Agricultural Science

Oon Xoong Harng

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE (HONS) AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE

Batch of March 2015

The four years in UTAR was really priceless!! I have been missing all the interesting people I met there. I would like  to thank my family and friends for their supports throughout during this period. All I would say is that study hard to pass and study smart to score! Most importantly, we must have goals in life! Set our priority on what we want to achieve and make a timeline for that. Since many of us are away from our parents, my advice is the golden rule my Daddy told me before I departed to Kampar, he said "The more freedom you have, the more discipline you must be". This is how I got through my four years in Kampar, graduated as a scholar and a pioneer with Merit Bachelor Degree.

First and foremost, I would like to extend my gratitude to the people in my course, juniors, dance mates and housemates. We had been hanging out, studying for finals, going for trips, and gym, breaking our heads for assignments and throwing flour during birthday surprise together! I really treasure all these moments with them. Life in Kampar wouldn't be that cool without them!!! Not to forget all the staff and lecturers in Faculty of Science, especially Department of Agricultural and Food Science. They are great, helpful and motivating whom I had consulted when facing difficulties on studies. Thankfully, they are all good listeners and advisors. I really missed the time spent with them.

Secondly, it is because I like plants, that is why I chose agricultural science as my degree study. Apart from just classroom knowledge, field work and field trips are the experiences that I treasured the most. I was exposed to problems and future challenges in the agricultural industry during studies. Hence, I planned to work and improve the industry with least impact on the environment and the general public. I currently planned to go for postgraduate studies in this field too.  However, I think industrial experience are more essential, therefore, I am currently working in a research company.

Lastly, a little advice to my beloved juniors and UTARians, try to make more friends when you are in the university. Sometimes you need them especially when you are sick or you need a listener during the adversity. Do not close door to your ownself; there are many interesting people out there for you to make friends with. I am sure many UTARians are open-hearted and they will give support to fill our lonely time with joy and happiness. One good way is to join events or organizing events; you will make tonnes of friends from there. The friends you make in the campus are incomparable with the ones you make when you come out to work one day. Widen your network, it will make our life more exciting.
