Alumni Local Social Trip to Kuala Sepetang, Taiping, Ipoh and Batu Gajah, 30 Sep - 01 Oct 2017 (2 days 1 night)

In conjunction with Visit Perak 2017, Department of Alumni Relations and Placement had organised a Local Social Trip to Kuala Sepetang, Taiping, Ipoh and Batu Gajah on 30 September to 01 October 2017. The 2 days and 1 night trip has a total of 28 participants included alumni, student and staff from both Kampar and Sungai Long Campuses.

Kuala Sepetang is a coastal town located in Larut, Matang and Selama District of Perak which offers a wide range of eco-tourism places for tourists. It is well known for its mangrove swamp reserve park that opens to the public daily. The town which is a nice getaway choice also offers famous restaurant for seafood, historical attractions and charcoal factory for tourists to visit.

During the trip we had visited a few places in Taiping such as Spritzer EcoPark and Factory, Antong Coffee Shop and Factory, Matang Mangrove Forest, Charcoal Factory, Old 'Port Weld' Railway Station Signboard and Maxwell Hill. We even tried the local food at Larut Matang Hawker Centre during lunch and also have had a good dinner at the recommended seafood restaurant at Kuala Sepetang. Participants enjoyed it very much.

After lunch, our next destination was Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple. The visit to Kek Lok Tong Cave Temple was worthwhile. The temple nestled inside a limestone hill is a tourist attraction located in the area of Gunung Rapat in Ipoh. The limestone hill is made up of light grey to white crystalline Kinta limestone. The garden features a jogging path circling two lakes and one of the longest reflexology footpaths in Ipoh as well as the unexpected greatness of flora and fauna.

While the visit to Kellie's Castle located in Batu Gajah, Kinta District, Perak, Malaysia was great. The unfinished, ruined mansion was built by a Scottish planter named William Kellie Smith. Kellie's Castle is now a popular local tourist attraction, with some believing it to be haunted. After a long and exciting day, we had our dinner at one of the restaurants in Kampar old town before some of the participants departing back to Sungai Long Campus.
