OCTOBER 2018

Proud to be a part of Malaysia's second best university, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)

Kavitanjali Budthmanathan

Bachelor of Science (Honours) Actuarial Science

Batch of August 2017

Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all learning from failures. Taking up one of the toughest degrees in Malaysia, Actuarial Science in a reputable university like UTAR is no easy task.

There are days where when lectures seemed to occupy the whole day. And worst of all, back to back tests, assignments, discussions, presentations and thadaaaa!!!  There come the most dreaded final examinations. The 14 weeks study period is more like marathon once the sixth week starts. I must agree I did burn my midnight oil during the final study week where it?s me against the clock.  I always made sure I complete my tutorials and revisions each week before the following week starts. I realized focusing on subject and understanding the topic being studied is more crucial than merely memorizing a subject.  I was also very consistent when it comes to completing assignments and group discussions. UTAR is definitely not a place for lazy bones or pessimistic. After all, why put off until tomorrow what you can do today!

But today, I am proud to say that I had made the right decision to come to UTAR. UTAR has actually mould me into what I am today and taught me how to make the impossible possible through hard work and perseverance. UTAR has molded me to think and learn independently and make wise decisions which is a crucial aspect needed in the working world. The assignments prepared by UTAR lecturer are close to professional assignments at work and requires students to use programming knowledge which  provides students hands on experience thus becomes very useful during work life in future.  Today, I am proud that I been a part of Malaysia's second best university, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR). Every little encounters and experiences gained here in this university has been enriching and will remain within my memories for life long.

To all my UTAR juniors, at the end of the day, you put all the work in, and eventually it'll pay off. It could be in a year, it could be in 30 years. Eventually, your hard work will pay off. Do not ever give up on your dreams by comparing yourself with others. You might extended your study period or failed one or two subjects during your study period. Never let such obstacles pull you down. Always remember, you are the master of your destiny. You can influence, direct and control your own environment. You can make your life what you want it to be. Moreover, I would like to use this opportunity to congratulate my fellow graduates on your achievement; you guys made it ? CONGRATULATIONS!

Last but not least, I would like to thank those who made my UTAR journey possible. My main strength of pillar has been my mother. There was time where I doubted my ability to survive the obstacles in my path. Whenever I am on the verge of giving up, she bounces me up with her motivating words. Without her, I would not have achieved this crucial milestone in my life today. Not only that, I would like to personally thank my lecturers who were always there to clear my doubts besides their busy schedule. Thanks you Dr .Chang Yun Fah for your motivating words and guidance and Dr.Pan Wei Yeing who always spared her time to coach me in Life Contingencies.  Moreover, I would also like to thank my friends who made the UTAR journey a memorable and enjoyable one!

Thank you everyone!!!
