UTAR Career Day

The Department of Alumni Relations and Placement organised the annual career fair on 28 March 2018 at Sungai Long Campus. More than 75 companies participated in the career fair in hopes to employ capable and relevant future graduates. Some of the companies were Maybank, Tan Chong Group, Top Glove, Daikin Malaysia, Bandar Utama City Centre Sdn Bhd, Star Cruises, Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd and Julia Gabriel International.

The objectives of the fair were to provide employment opportunities for the matching of jobs and training programmes between employers, UTAR students and alumni. It was also to help students to gather more corporate information about the potential employers, the skills requirements, employment benefits, salaries, and other related employment details.

Aside from the participating companies, UTAR counselling and guidance unit set up a booth to provide counselling services to students who seek career guidance, career exploration and to enhance personal and emotional well-being. Some other services offered by the counsellors are Individual and group counselling, peer mentoring programme, campus adjustment talk, EQ workshop, expressive art workshop, personality and psychological assessment and other counselling activities.

Press Metal Berhad Human Resource Officer Rahimi Yusri said, "UTAR is a good medium for us to find employees for our company as UTAR students are very energetic and they possess good qualities which suit our company. Generally, those who join our company are required to be mentally and physically prepared." He added, "One should acquire certain knowledge in the field and to think out of the box and take initiative to be resourceful in finding solutions to the problem faced."

"UTAR career fair is indeed useful for us as it opens up our minds to the variety of companies that are available in the industry. I am hoping to find good opportunities that are available here," said Akash C Patel, who is a final year student in Bachelor of Engineering (Hons) Mechatronic Engineering.
