The UTAR SOFT SKILLS DEVELOPMENT CERTIFICATE (USSDC) is a certification system which recognises students’ achievements and efforts to improve themselves in the areas of communication, leadership, teamwork, strategic thinking, creativity and commitment, integrity as well as lifelong learning and information management. It involves experiential learning in training and interaction sessions and activities outside the classroom.

The certification system covers training/activities of 5 core components:

1. Communication & Language

2. Integrity & Ethics

3. Emotional Intelligence, Teamwork & Leadership

4. Creative & Strategic Thinking

5. Entrepreneurship

From January 2011 to December 2017, the 5 core components had been revised to 7 core components:

1. Communication & Language Skills

2. Critical Thinking, Creative Thinking and Problem Solving Skills

3. Emotional Intelligence and Teamwork Skills

4. Moral and Professional Ethics

5. Leadership Skills

6. Lifelong Learning and Information Management

7. Entrepreneurship Skills

From January 2018 onwards, the core components are revised to 10 core components to be in line with the core work-related skills highly required by jobs in the future. These components are:

2. Cognitive Skills
3. Complex Problem Solving
4. Critical Thinking
5. Emotional Intelligence, Cultural Intelligence and Teamwork
6. Moral and Professional Ethics
7. Leadership Skills 
8. Lifelong Learning & Information Management
9. Entrepreneurship Skills
10. Digital Literacy

Below are the USSDC points rewarded to students who have attended soft skills training programmes or participated in the co-curricular or extra-curricular activities relevant to the components listed above:
