UTAR PR Campaign 2017/2018: Volunteerism VI

Held annually since 2011, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman’s (UTAR) Public Relations (PR)Campaign, Volunteerism is a project by UTAR Public Relations students. Throughout the years,Volunteerism Campaign had received significant award such as the Bronze Award in theMalaysia PR Awards (MPRA) 2014/2015 under the Public Sector Award category and Gold Award in the Malaysia PR Awards (MPRA) 2016/2017 under the “Institutions of HigherLearning – Students” category.

 

Currently in its sixth edition, the Volunteerism Campaign, known as Volunteerism VI, aims to encourage the public to be actively involved in volunteer activities. Volunteerism VI aims to improve the surrounding community’s quality of life through the recruitment of volunteers in order to address the different problems faced.

 

There are five sub-themes under Volunteerism VI, namely Corporate Social Responsibility, Digital Economy, Health Services, Heritage Tourism, and Social Welfare. Each sub-theme targets a specific group of audience and champions a specific cause.

 

Group 1 – Corporate Social Responsibility

Knowing the importance of Corporate Social Responsibility, 39 members from Group 1 aim to reduce sea pollution. Activities to keep the beach and the sea clean will be carried out in Pulau Pangkor, Perak which reflects Group 1’s tagline: “Stopping Pollution is Our Best Solution”.

Group 2 – Digital Economy

The goal of Group 2, with the sub-theme Digital Economy, is to promote the digitalization of economic transactions. What is Digital Economy? It refers to the use of information communication technology (ICT) to empower economic activities and commercial transactions. Our aim is to connect potential entrepreneurs to various opportunities digitally, which is in line with our tagline “Your Innovation is our Mission”.

Group 3 – Health Services

Health Services is the sub-theme of Group 3. We aim to educate the public about the severity of heart diseases and to promote healthy lifestyle. Following our group’s tagline, “Move Your Body, Keep Your Heart Healthy”, a series of physical activity and free medical check-up will be carried out.

Group 4 – Heritage Tourism

Entrusted with the sub-theme Heritage Tourism, Group 4 aims to promote the heritage sites in Perak. We have lined up some exciting events to encourage people from all walks of life to get-to-know and appreciate those sites. Our tagline, “Unveiling Heritage, Revealing its History” is the core message that we want to convey to the public.

Group 5 – Social Welfare

Through Social Welfare we aim to provide assistance to individuals and families to fulfill their social needs by creating a platform to promote and educate them on the importance of creativity. We focus mainly on the younger generation, those from age 10-12, to encourage the development of their creativity skills. Our tagline is “Igniting Creativity, Expanding Imagination”.
