The construction of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) here will take into consideration the lakes and ponds now existing at the 520ha site, said MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Ling Liong Sik.
He said construction would be carried out carefully so as to maintain the surroundings, which include a bird sanctuary for migratory birds.
He said he was grateful to the Perak government for offering such a beautiful site for UTAR, which is located next to the nearly completed Tunku Abdul Rahman College (TARC) campus.
Dr Ling said UTAR would help spur economic growth and development in Kampar.
Dr Ling said by next year the current campus at Section 13 in Petaling Jaya would not have enough space to cater for the increasing number of students who would have to move to temporary premises such as the UTAR Complex being built at the TARC grounds in Setapak.
