Criteria to Determine UTAR Sportperson of the Year/Most Talented UTARIAN
1. Background
This is to recognize achievement of UTAR students in non-academic fields namely in sports and also talents. Awarding this to students on an annual basis will give recognition to those students who have performed above expectations in competitions and combined a good performance with academic achievement. This will also serve to inspire others to strive for better holistic results.
2. Proposal
It is proposed that the following point system will be used as a criteria in shortlisting candidates for the award. The onus will be on the individual to write in and avail themselves to be considered for this award. A standardized form will be designed and utilized to streamline the process and is to be submitted online.
Criteria:
1. Participation (representing UTAR and participating in external events/tournaments/competitions)*
2. Participation (not representing UTAR but participating in external events/tournaments/competitions)*
3. Others achievement (from participating in external events/tournaments/competitions)*
4. Academic achievements
5. Others (Contribution)
* All participation in external events must be in line with the University's rules and regulations.
2.1 Points system
All the students/ players will have to keep track of their own achievements using a point system. The points system will be according to the following scale:

Classification of the 'GRADE' :
- Grade AAAA Represent UTAR or the country at international and national level
- Grade AAA - Represent UTAR at University / Varsity Level or participation at state level competitions (eg. MASISWA, HEP-IPTS, SUKMA, etc).
- Grade AA - Represent UTAR at Invitation Level (involving other Universities /college teams/External Open Competitions, locally or internationally).
- Grade A - Represent UTAR at District / Local tournaments / Friendly Matches

- The above achievement is for taking part but not representing UTAR per se.
- Only includes external tournament/competitions (represent either an external body or individually).
- Grade AAAA - International level
- Grade AAA - National eg. ASEAN Games, Sukan Uni Asia, Malaysian Idol etc).
- Grade AA - Represent MASISWA Zone Tengah, State Level competitions etc
- Grade A - Invitational Open Tournaments and competitions

Remarks:
· Grades will be based on placing i.e. 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
· Consolation prizes will be given 0.5 points irregardless of individual or team events
· No points given for 'special mention' awards or prizes.

For this criteria, the points
scale will given as below :
- Grade AAA - Be a 'Main Committee' for UTAR Club & Society / Captain for Sports team (1 year term).
- Grade AA - As a 'Committee' member for UTAR Club & Society / any others main committee for ad-hoc project such as Orientation Committee & etc.
- Grade A - As a 'Member' for UTAR Club & Society.
Note:
a) Players/ students must update DSA for any changes in their status of the above criteria from time to time.
b) All the 'Event Grade' from 2.1.1 - 2.1.3 for Sports will be determined subject to the input from UTAR Sports & Recreation Unit Manager.
