- Promoting awareness in and appreciation of a broad range of interest and activities
- Developing leadership skills
- Developing team work
- Developing discipline and responsibility
- Providing a platform for students with common interests to network and to enhance their ability and talents
- UTAR societies and clubs organise a wide range of extra-curricular programs and activities throughout the year
Student societies and clubs are classified into:

- Recreation, sports & games group
- Voluntary group
- Self defence group
The societies and clubs are supervised by advisers and coordinated by Department of Student Affairs.
